Stacked Flower Beds
We have started a new project this week! Building some stacked flower beds along the side of our house. Not an easy task. It started a year ago when we decided we wanted to do this to stop the loss of soil on the hill each time it rains. We started looking for stones but I refuse to pay $2 each for a ROCK. Seriously? It's like paying for dirt..which I also hate.
So three weeks ago I saw an ad on Craigslist for paving stones,, $1 each. She had 150 of them! We show up with a truck and trailer, in the rain, and spend hours loading them up and hauling them to our house. Totally worth it, they are way bigger than the average stone, and way cheaper!
Then we went to Vegas, and took a break.
Now we're back, and had no idea how to start the project. Luckily, my wonderful brother is a construction management major, and the rest is history. Brian, my brother C.D., and my father in law, Steve, spent the day yesterday working on it! It's coming together.
First, our drainage that we buried a year ago was right underneath where the beds needed to go. Brian and C.D. spent a couple of hours digging that up and moving it.
Then, they started to build. It looks awesome, I'm blessed to have such good helpers..that accept payment in Coors Light and hot wings from the Peanut.
There will be three all together, so we have a couple more to do. More to come!
Also, I was super lucky this week and traded plants with Ms. Alli. The hostas hated being moved and they were pretty droopy at first, but they got over it. I'll have to find some time to actually create a bed and mulch them, but not right now.
This was the hole it left:
Finished Bed # 2!
I can't wait for #3 to be done so I can fill it with pretty flowers!

Updated April 8TH:
We did some more work last night, we spent two hours just the two of us, and got pretty far!
Afterward I had a whole new respect for the boys working all day on this on Friday.
We were going along just fine and then came across a rock that was going to be a problem, it was underneath some already laid bricks. After a lot of prying we got it up.

Diaper Covers
I finally got around to making the matching diaper covers for Roe's dresses! I couldn't sleep Saturday night and worked on these from 2am until about 5am..which is why there are no pics. I was not in the mood!
Here she is sporting one while she hunts for Easter Eggs!
